There are three main types of image files.

JPEG
GIF
PNG

JPEG's are usually used for images with a lot of detail, such as photographs. They use an algorithm to compress the image's file size at the cost of quality.
GIF's are typically used for images with solid colors, such as icons or logos. Gif's are also popularly used for motion or animation. They can only show 256 colors.
PNG's are typically used for versatile images in more complex designs, but are not always supported by older browsers. Both GIF's and PNG's allow for transparency.

For my own website, I'll need to experiment with what level of compression I am comfortable with. I want to stay within the 1GB neocities limit for as long as possible, but suspect my blogs will be image heavy, especially in regards to my future models. Most of my other ideas are also accompanied by some sort of graphic.

HTML Tables

HTML tables are commonly abused to layout pages, but best practice is to rely on CSS for that role. Tables should be used as intended, to structure tabular data.
